Customs Places Personnel On Alert At Borders Ahead Of 2023 Polls

Nigeria Customs Service has placed its personnel on high alert, at all borders across the country entry points, ahead of the 2023 polls.

The operatives, according to the agency, are on the look out for military camouflages and other weapons.

The customs spokesman, Timi Bomodi, who made this known in an interview on Sunday, said the alert was in anticipation of unethical politicians who may want to smuggle such items into the country, for the purpose of the forthcoming polls.

According to him, such alert led to the interception of smuggled police uniforms, camouflage, bullet proof vests and other security items by customs operatives at Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos.

Bomodi also said that scanners had been installed at Nigeria’s three major sea ports in Lagos and Port Harcourt to screen containers to detect illicit items being brought into the country.

According to Bomodi, the enforcement process had begun to yield results, adding that a case in point is the report from the Murtala Muhammed Airport of the arrest of people who attempted to bring in Police uniforms, camouflage, bulletproof vests, and all kind of things.
