Nigeria Customs Service said it has intercepted in Ogun state, over 1,000 bags of poisonous rice smuggled into the country from Benin republic.

Acting comptroller of federal operating unit, zone a, Hussein Ejibunu, made this known to newsmen at his headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos.

He says that the poisonous rice, with a brand name ‘Simba’, shipped from India to Cotonou, is not safe for human consumption.

According to Ejibunu, National Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) after subjecting the seized rice to a laboratory test says it contains lead substance.
