Court Upholds Abiodun As Ogun APC Governorship Candidate

A Federal High Court, sitting in Abeokuta, has upheld the emergence of Governor Dapo Abiodun as the winner of the May 26, 2022 Ogun State APC governorship primary election, for the 2023 polls.

The court dismissed three separate suits filed by some APC members to challenge the emergence of Abiodun as the winner of the governorship primaries.

Justice Yoyce Abdulmalik struck out the suits filed by Mrs. Sherifat Eweje, Semiu Olanrewaju alao and Nuberu Adesanya and two others.

Apart from dismissing the suits, the judge awarded a joint cost of N2 million against each of the three litigants in favour of the Governor and the state APC.

In her judgement, the judge dismissed the cases for various reasons, including lack of locus standi to file the application by one of the litigants.

She also threw out another case for lack of jurisdiction of the court, incompetence, frivolity, as well as on the ground that one of the suit was statute barred.

The judge warned litigants that the APC as a political party is a voluntary organization, adding that its  members must submit themselves to the will of majority of members in the party.
