Court Orders Iyorchia Ayu To Stop Parading Self As PDP National Chairman

A Benue State High Court in Makurdi has granted an interim order restraining Dr. Iyorchia Ayu from parading himself as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Justice W.I Kpochi, gave the order on Monday, while ruling on a motion ex parte filed by Engr. Conrad Terhide Utaan.

The judge ruled that he should keep off the party pending the hearing and determination of the motion already filed against him.

Earlier on Monday, Ayu had said the party’s executive committee in his ward lacked the powers to suspend him for alleged anti-party’s activities.

The PDP ward at Ogyorov in Gboko Local Government area in Benue State on Saturday had suspended for not working for the PDP in the axis during the March 18 polls.

Also, the PDP ward executive officers accused him of failing to pay membership fees and failed to vote during the March 18 polls.

But Ayu in a statement on Monday said only the PDP national executive council was empowered to suspend him.

Ayu therefore described his suspension as an exercise in futility, as it derived its strength majority from gross illiteracy, ignorance, gambling and desperation. It has only mischief, drama and propaganda value.

He accused those who signed the statement suspending him of forging the signature of the ward executive committee officials or signed under duress.

The PDP national chairman also said nine of the ward executive committee officers were being held in Makurdi.
