Couple Arrested Over Abduction And Killing Of Ogun Hotelier
A couple, Larry Adewumi and his wife, Okereke Olufunmilayo, are now in police net, over the abduction and killing of an Ijebu Ode hotelier, Otunba Abayomi Smith, since September 2020.
The hotelier was killed after the payment of N15 million ransom by his family.
The couple was arrested along with one Adebowale Sanni, for the abduction and killing of Smith who was the director of Rolak Hotel, Ijebu Ode.
Spokesman of Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the hotelier was abducted by gunmen at Anifowose Estate, Igbeba in Ijebu Ode.
Sanni said that Okereke Funmilayo who is a manager in a building material shop of the late hotelier, provided them with vital information about the late hotelier.
All efforts by the police to track the kidnappers who killed the hotelier failed since September 2020, until September 2022, when police got an intelligence of plan to kidnap the wife and a son of the late hotelier.
Detectives later picked up Adebowale Sanni at Ikeji Arakeji in Osun State, and allegedly confirmed the planned abduction of the wife and son of the hotelier, who will be killed after collecting ransom.
Oyeyemi said the suspect also revealed to the police that the leader of their gang is Larry Adewunmi, and that his wife provided information for the kidnap operation.
This led to police arrest of the woman and her husband three days later.
Oyeyemi said N34.9 million was found in the account of Adewunmi with Jaiz Bank, and another N4.57 million in Access Bank’s account.
Also recovered was a 2014 model of Toyota highlander jeep from Adewunmi.
