Confusion Over Retirement Order Issued To Immigration Comptroller General

There is confusion over the retirement of the acting comptroller general of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Isa Jere.

The comptroller general had been asked to proceed on retirement from service.

The board of immigration, civil Defence, fire and correctional service in the directive on Wednesday ordered the acting comptroller general to hand over to the most senior officer in the agency.

But the interior minister, Rauf Aregbesola, who is in charge of the agencies claimed ignorance of the forced retirement of acting comptroller general.

Aregbesola spoke on the issue while answering questions from the state house correspondents at the end of the weekly meeting of federal executive council on Wednesday.

The board directive following threat by a group of immigration officers to stage protests if his tenure expiring this month is renewed.

The tenure of the acting immigration comptroller general had been extended from April 2022 to this month.

This directive is coming following the allegation that the outgoing NIS boss was making efforts to get another extension to his stay in the Service.

Some officers of the Service had threatened to embark on a protest should the Federal Government extend his tenure again.
