President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the 40,000 metric tonnes release of grains from Nigeria’s strategic grains reserve.
The grains, include maize, sorghum, millet and others.
The release of grains is aimed at cushioning the high price of grains in the market, especially during the Ramadan, Easter, and Salah periods

Agriculture and rural development minister, Muhammad Abubakar made this known to the state house correspondents, after a meeting with president Buhari at the presidential villa on Tuesday.
The grains are to be released from the grain silos in each of Nigeria’s six zones to the federal ministry of humanitarian, disaster management and social development for distribution.
The minister explains that the ministry would adopt the COVID 19 lockdown mode of sharing of palliatives, in distributing the commodities
He blames the insecurity in the north west and north central regions for a reduction in Nigeria’s capacity to produce foods.
