Buhari Okays Bill Establishing University Of Medicine At Abeokuta In Ogun

President Buhari has signed into law, a bill for the establishment of Federal University of Medicine amd Medical Sciences in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Aremu Gbadebo thanked Buhari for approving the project, assuring him that he would be immotralized in the hall of fame of Egbaland.

The university is to be located along Ajebo road.

The bill was initiated by senator Lanre Tejuoso in 2018 while he was the senate health committee chairman during the eighth national assembly.

The bill passed through the second reading.

Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who replaced Tejuoso in the senate in 2019, as a senator representing Ogun Central, revisited the bill, leading to its passage by the senate in June 2021.

The hospital project was the brainchild of the medical director of Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Professor Adewale Musa Olomu, shortly after assuming duties at the hospital.

Professor Musa Olomu before the bill was initiated at the senate, had worked with the Omosun admnistration, to acquire a large expanse of land for the project.

The medical director also got the interest of some external bodies in the project.
