President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the presidential candidates in the February 25, 2023 poll to accept the results that will be released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Buhari warns that there should not be any act of violence after the announcement of the results

Buhari spoke on the issue on Wednesday at the second edition of the National Peace Accord, facilitated by the National Peace Council, signed by all the candidates at a ceremony in Abuja.

The president said he was aware of deep concern that are being raised about the conduct of the 2023 polls and its outcome.

He, however, promised to continue to act with neutrality and allow the rule of law to take precedence over political expediency.

Buhari said this was manifested in the conduct of the governorship polls in Anambra, Ekiti, and Osun States.

The chairman of the peace council, General Abdulsalam Abubakar expressed concern that presidential candidates and their parties who signed the first peace accord last year, are not keeping to its terms.

According to Abubakar, 44 percent of the infraction was committed by the spokespersons of the presidential campaign spokespersons, 26 percent by party stalwarts and 19 percent by presidential candidates.
