Bola Tinubu Receives Certificate Of Return As Nigeria’s Next President

The All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has been presented with the certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as Nigeria’s president-elect.

Also presented with the certificate is the APC vice presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shetimma.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, presented the certificates to both of them on Wednesday afternoon at the national collation centre, Abuja, hours after they were declared the winner of the presidential poll.

In a short remark after receiving the certificate, said his victory is for all, extending the olive branch to those that lost out in the race, urged them to team up with him to build a better Nigeria.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was declared as the winner of the keenly contested 2023 presidential poll in the early hours of Wednesday by the INEC chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu.

Yakubu made the declaration while announcing the final results at 4.10 am, at the end of three day old collation of results from the poll at the National Collation Centre, Abuja.

Tinubu, according to the INEC chairman, won with a simple majority of 8,794,726 votes.

His closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), scored 6,984,520 votes.

Peter Obi of the Labour Party came third with 6,101,533 votes, while Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party got 1,496,687 votes.

The INEC chairman said with the results, Tinubu of the APC had satisfied the constitutional requirements.

Yakubu said a certificate of return would be issued to the APC candidate and his running mate at 3 pm today.

Further breakdown of the votes indicates that Tinubu won in 12 states, Atiku in12 states and Obi in 12 states, while kwankwaso won in only one state.

The Labour Party  has urged Nigerians to remain peaceful as it pursues legal redress on the just concluded presidential poll.

The party’s vice presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Ahmed, made the call hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INCE) announced the winner of the poll on Wednesday morning.

Datti, addressing a press conference in Abuja, claimed that Labour Party won the poll, but was rigged.

According to him,  the purported result did not meet the minimum criteria of a transparent, free and fair poll.

In addition to the most condemnable attacks, voter intimidation and suppression, the election was conducted in clear violation of agreed and promised INEC rules and guidelines,” Datti said.

He asked supporters of Labour Party nationwide to brace up for the March 11 governorship and National Assembly poll.

The party had staged a walk out of the National Collation Centre, Abuja, on Tuesday, while counting of the results of the poll was ongoing by INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu.
