Bill Seeking To Ban Cross-Dressing Fail In House of Representatives

A bill seeking to ban cross dressing in Nigeria has failed in the House of Representatives.

The bill which was going through the third reading was stepped down for further consideration.

Popular cross dressers in Nigeria are Bobrisky and James Brown. The bill seeking to amend the same sex marriage act of 2013, include cross dressing as an offence.

It stipulates a jail term of six months for anyone convicted of cross dressing.

The sponsor of the bill, Muda Lawal, was directed by the deputy speaker, Idris Wase, during the Wednesday plenary of the House to step it down.

The deputy speaker intervened, following an uproar in the chamber while the sponsor was presenting the bill.

Wase said the sponsor of the bill failed to provide convincing argument to support it and not sensitive to the multi-cultural nature of the country.
