Benue state government says it will arm its security outfit with AK-47 and AK-49 rifles and sophisticated weapons, to fight killer herders terrorizing the state.
Governor Samuel Ortom who announced this, lists arms to be procured as including AK-47 and AK-49 rifles, for the state’s community volunteer guards.
Ortom, speaking at the unveiling of the security outfit in Makurdi on Thursday, said that his administration would apply for a licence to legally purchase the weapons.
500 personnel were in the first batch of the volunteer guards.
The governor says they were set up following the failure to save the state from attacks of killer herders.
