ASUU Kicks as Buhari Rejects Payment of Six Months Salary

ASUU Asks Presidency To Implement 2009 Agreement Or Shut Varsities

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says it will not enter into a fresh negotiation with federal government over the 2009 agreement.

ASUU asks federal government to shut all federal universities if it insists on renegotiating the agreement.

Federal government a few days ago had said it has no fund to implement the agreement, and set up a committee to re-negotiate it with ASUU.

But ASUU president, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, says he is worried that federal government which claims it lack fund to upgrade federal universities, quickly released $8 million for the evacuation of stranded Nigerians students from Ukraine.

Osodeke asks federal government to close universities if it lacks fund, and allow students to decide on their next line of action.

He also accuses federal officials of under developing public universities being attended by children of the poor, while sending their children to foreign universities.

Lecturers in federal and most of the state universities had been on strike for the past three weeks over the 2009 agreement and 2020 agreement.
