Another Court Confirms Adebutu As Winner Of Ogun PDP Primaries

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has confirmed Honorable Ladi Adebutu as the winner of the last May 25 Ogun State PDP governorship primaries.

Justice Inyang Ekwo declared Adebutu as the winner on Thursday, while ruling on an application filed by a PDP governorship aspirant, Otunba Jimi Lawal to challenge the outcome of the primaries.

The judge, dismissing the application, described Jimi Lawal as a spoiler, who joined the PDP from the APC last march 25, and participated in the primaries.

Justice Inyang ruled that his application lacks credible evidence to challenge the results of the primaries.

According to the judge, the delegates list being contested by Jimi Lawal was the same one approved by the PDP National Working Committee and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The judge also said it was not the business of any court to determine the candidate elected by the people.

Jimi Lawal in his application had alleged that the delegates list used in conducting the May 25 Ogun State primaries was fake, different from the one that INEC compiled during the PDP congresses.

Meanwhile, Otunba Jimi Lawal has moved to challenge the court’s judgement affirming Honorable Ladi Adebutu as the party’s state governorship candidate.

The project director of Jimi Adebisi Lawal campaign organization, Austin Onyikor said the organization’s legal team is taking steps to challenge the judgement at the appeal court.

Onyikor said the judgement was received by Jimi Lawal with mixed feelings.

According to him, the judgement was in conflict with the issues, the facts and law raised in the application filed to challenge the outcome of the last May 25 didputed primaries of Ogun State PDP.
