Alake of Egbaland Asks Tinubu to Declare July 13 of Every Year as Wole Soyinka Day

The paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, has asked federal government to declare July 13 of every year, as Wole Soyinka day, for his contribution to humanity and Nigeria.

The Monarch also wants federal government to confer Nigeria’s second highest honor, the grand commander of order of Nigeria on the Nobel Laureate, to celebrate his ninetieth birthday.

He said the New Orleans in the US, has already dedicated October 1, of every year as Wole Soyinka day.

The paramount ruler also declared July 13 as Wole Soyinka day in Egbaland, the Ogun state capital.

Oba Gbadebo stated this during a special royal new conference held in his Ake Palace in Abeokuta on Tuesday, to mark the ninetieth birthday of the Nobel Laureate.

The Monarch said the day would be marked every year by the Egbas at home and diaspora to celebrate Soyinka, saying honor should bestowed on whom is due.

The paramount ruler explained the attachment of Wole Soyinka to Ake, Abeokuta.

The paramount ruler also announced activities lined up to celebrate Wole Soyinka day on Friday, July 12 and July 13, at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto Abeokuta.

On July 12, there would be arts exhibitions by pupils of Saint Peters primary school, Ake, Abeokuta grammar school, Ogun state chapter of the society of Nigerian artistes, books exhibition by spectrum publishing company and documentaries on WS.

On July 13, there would be cultural displays, as well as hunting expeditions by hunters from Egbaland.
