Again, National Assembly Passes Bill Establishing Peace Corps

Again, the National Assembly has passed the Nigeria Peace Corps establishment bill.

The fresh bill, the second in five years, was sponsored by the senate committee on the Army and the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives.

The bill is to be forwarded to President Buhari for his assent.

The bill was first passed by both chambers of the National Assembly in 2017 and transmitted to Buhari for his assent.

But buhari refused to assent to the bill on the ground that the proposed security outfit would duplicate the functions of the police and other existing security agencies.
