Adebutu Rejects Ogun Poll Results, Says He Will Challenge It In Court

Ogun PDP governorship candidate, Honorable Ladi Adebutu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has formally rejected the outcome of the last Saturday Ogun State governorship poll.

Adebutu vowed to challenge in court, the declaration of Governor Dapo Abiodun as the winner of the poll.

Abiodun was declared winner of the poll on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which credited him with 276,298 votes against 262,383 for Adebutu.

Adebutu, addressing a news conference on Monday in Abeokuta, said the party would explore all legal options to challenge the results declared by the INEC.

According to the PDP candidate, party agents have since detected 14,000 illegal votes cast during the poll credited to the APC candidate.

He alleged that 10,000 of such illegal votes were detected within polling units in a local government area.

Other four thousand illegal votes, according to him were detected by PDP party agents in polling units in Ogijo, near Sagamu.

He said more of such illegal votes are expected to be detected after the completion of the ongoing auditing of the polls.

Adebutu accused the APC of using its thugs to snatch ballot boxes after it discovered it was losing out in some of its strongholds across the state.

The state PDP chairman, Sikirullahi Ogundele asked INEC to declare Saturday’s governorship poll inconclusive, considering attacks by thugs on 54 polling units where ballot boxes and sensitive electoral material were carted away and burnt.

Ogundele represented by his deputy, Kehinde Bamgbose accused INEC of colluding with the APC and security agencies to rig the poll.
