Abiodun Reverses Death Sentences of Six Convicts, Frees 40 Others

Governor Dapo Abiodun has commuted to life jail, the death sentences of six of convicts on the death row in the correctional centres in Ogun state.

Aside from the reversal of death sentences, he also approved the early release of 40 other convicts, with a hope that they will turn a new leaf and have a fresh opportunity to contribute to the development of the country.

The governor, in an address to mark the 2020 democracy day at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, said the clemency would also help  decongest the correctional centres.

He paid a glowing tribute to late Bashorun MKO Abiola for paying the supreme sacrifice for the seamless democratic dispensation which the country is now enjoying.

He used Dr. Niran Malaolu, the Chief Executive Officer of Rockcity FM and others as a point of contact to those who struggled for the June 12 democracy day.

Malaolu speaking at the event, asked all Nigerians to obtain the permanent voter’s card to make the celebration of the democracy day more meaningful.

Later in the day, prayers were also offered at the family home of late MKO Abiola at Oja Agbo, Abeokuta.

The Abiola family asked those aspiring to contest in the 2023 presidential poll to take a look at Abiola’s 1993 hope mandate in preparing their manifestos.
