Abiodun Elected Chairman of the Southern States Governors Forum
Governor Dapo Abiodun has been elected as the chairman of the Southern Governors Forum.
Anambara State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo emerged as the vice chairman of the forum.
They were both elected at the meeting of the forum which held in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital on Monday.
Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, reading the resolution of the forum after a meeting lasting more than five hours that the decision to elect Abiodun as the chairman was unanimous.
Sanwo Olu said other governors were convinced that Abiodun has the leadership qualities to successfully lead the forum.
The new chairman in his acceptance speech, appreciated the confidence reposed in him by other governors to lead them, promising to lead with inclusiveness and efficiency.
Governor Abiodun also promised to work with his deputy, Governor Soludo to proactively address fundamental issues of regional interests.

In attendance were governors Babajude Sanwo Olu of Lagos State, Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Alex Otti (Abia); Godwin Obaseki (Edo) and Bassey Out of Cross Rivers state.
Others were Governor Umoh Enoh of Akwa Ibom State and Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.
Also at the meeting were Deputy Governors Chinyere Ekomani of Imo State; Monday Onyeme (Delta) And Olajide Odunlami of Ondo State.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Abiodun described his choice as the next chairman of the forum alongside Prof Soludo, as an honour he would forever appreciate.
“I first want to thank all the governors, the 17 governors for coming to Abeokuta today for this meeting, the first meeting after about three years. It underscores the commitment and the determination to ensure that the southern states occupy their pride of place.
“I also want to thank them for this confidence so reposed in myself and Prof Soludo and pledged that we will ensure that this confidence is justified.
“We have discussed a whole ranging number of issues but because of the time constraints, myself and Governor Soludo will make available to you newsmen, the details of our communique that reflects our aspirations, our determination, and the new and repositioned Southern Governors’ Forum,” he said.
