Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has asked civil servants to be further patient with his administration as it tried to clear all the outstanding claims of the workers.

For a start, the governor promised that the outstanding leave bonus would be paid along with their January 2023 salaries.

He also said the process for the 2021/2022 promotion exercise would begin very soon.

The governor gave the assurance, while addressing workers at an interactive session on Wednesday at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

He explained that the increase in his administration’s monthly salary bill by N700 million monthly due to the new national minimum wage, had constrained it from clearing all all arrears of deductions and other entitlement of workers.

Despite the constraints, the governor said his administration has been exploring various financial options to avoid imposing additional taxes on pensioners.

He also said that out of the outstanding N18 billion global deduction arrears, his administration had paid N12 billion, pledging to clear the N6 billion balance very soon.

The governor also said his administration had paid N82 billion gratuities to retired civil servants of the state and local governments between June 2019 and June 2022.

Abiodun said no payment was made for the gratuity and pensions since 2011 before he assumed office in June 2021.
