A New Report Puts The Nigeria’s Population In Poverty At 133 Million
133 million Nigerians are in poverty, according to a population poverty survey. The survey reveals 86 million of those living in poverty are in the North’s 19 states, while 47 million are in South’s 17 states.
Sokoto leads the state with high level of poverty affecting 90 per cent of its population, while Ondo state has the least of 27 per cent.
The data is contained in the multi-dimensional poverty index survey unveiled in Abuja on Thursday.

The survey was conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics, National Social Safety Net, Coordinating Office of the UN Development Programme, the UN Children Education Fund, Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative.
According to the survey, over 56,000 households in 36 states and Abuja were sampled between November 2021 and February 2022.
President Buhari, represented by his chief of staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari at the launch, said the index survey has been adopted by his administration.
