About 7,000 Nigerian medical doctors migrated from the country to the UK, the US and Canada in two years, according to the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).

NMA president, Professor Innocent Ujah, said they moved out of Nigeria between 2016 and 2018.

Ujah speaking at a maiden NMA annual lecture in Abuja, said with the development, Nigeria now has a deficit of 315,426 medical doctors to cater for its over 200 million population.

According to him, the ratio of medical doctor to patients in Nigeria is one to 5,000, against one to 600 recommended by the world health organization.

He asked federal and state governments to create enabling environment to halt the trend.
