70 Percent of Patients at Aro Hospital Are Drug Addicts-Provost

Federal Neuro-Psychiatric hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, says over 70 per cent of patients in its facility are drug addicts.

The provost of the hospital, Doctor Paul Agboola, said such patients apart from having primary health problems, also have drug abuse and addiction problems.

Agboola said the hospital is constructing two more wards in addition to the two existing ones, to accommodate patients with drug addiction problems as 70 percent of patients in the hospital are drug addicts.

According to him, drug abuse among the youths is a very alarming situation which is becoming a pandemic.

He said that modern technology has made it a possibility to produce cannabis in form of biscuits and sweets, adding that it was being served in some social parties.

The provost urged parents to be wary of the movement of their children and wards while taking their upbringing seriously.

He stressed the need for the government to review the nation’s laws as they affect mental health and drug abuse.
