Bill seeking to confer Indigene-ship status on settlers in Nigeria: Nigerians are charge to embrace unity to foster peaceful co-existence.

A cross section of callers on Citizens Forum, Rockcity 101.9 fm’s popular audience participation programme Day Break Show, have asked for a quick passage of the indigenes status bill which they believe will foster unity and cohesion in the society .

They expressed this view while contributing to the topic on the bill seeking to confer indigene-ship status on settlers in Nigeria discussed by a legal practitioner, Barrister Habeeb Ajayi and Public Affairs Analyst, Dr. Ebenezer Nkom. Other callers supported Afenifere and Yoruba Youth Assembly’s call for the bill to be halted because it might aggravate ethnic tension and violence.
Speaking earlier, Dr Ebenezer Nkom, who said he had lived in Abeokuta, Ogun State for 46 years without problems, described those opposed to the bill

as elites seeking to weaponise ethnicity adding that such calls should be rejected. He described ethnic groupings like Afenifere, and Arewa as not capturing the interests of citizens about using stereotypes to divide Nigerians
Barrister Habeeb Ajayi, on his part, called for massive education of Nigerians before the implementation of the bill.
