Police inspector on rampage, shot dead one person, injure two others in Calabar

A police inspector has gone on rampage in Calabar, the cross River State capital, shooting a retired police officer wife to death and injuring two others. The tragic incident took place in the early hours of Sunday when the police officer returned to the Atakpa Police Divisional Headquarters after a night duty at a microfinance bank, The officer was said to have cocked his rifle, refusing to surrender his official rifle at the police station.

According to witnesses, the officer threatened to shoot his colleagues, causing panic, while some officers reportedly fled, scaling the fence into the nearby Yoruba line section of the watts market. At this stage, a police tactical squad was mobilized to disarm him, He was said to have started firing his rifle in sighting the tactical policemen, and killed a woman and injured two others in the process.

Spokesperson of the state police command, Irene Ugbo, confirming the incident, said the police inspector has been arrested and the situation is under control.
