Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says he is worried over the indiscriminate drilling of boreholes in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The indiscriminate drilling of boreholes, according to him, could have repercussions, Obasanjo made the observation while receiving management officials of the Ogun-Osun River Basin authority at Abeokuta, as part of activities marking the 2025 world water day. He blamed the trend on the failure of successive Government in Ogun State to take advantage of the Oyan Dam established in Abeokuta, by his administration when he was a military ruler in 1977.

According to the former President, the Oyan Dam was constructed to provide water and electricity to Lagos and Abeokuta. He however lamented that 48 years after, the State Government had neglected the Dam which also have extensive irrigation facilities.
