Federal Government reads riot act to Universities Vice Chancellors on low admission of students

Federal Government has read a riot act to federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education to address the drastic shortfall in admission of students. It expressed concern that about 75 per cent of the two million potential students are left out yearly during admission exercise
Education Minister, Doctor Tunji Alausa gave the directive on Friday at a meeting with the vice chancellors of universities in Abuja. He said Federal Government had invested massively in infrastructre in the institutions, and the universities should stop limiting the number of students they would accommodate, based on available accommodation.
The minister also directed the vice chancellors to adopt hybrid learning model from the 2025/2026 academic session to address the widening skills gap in the workforce Doctor Tunji said that, hybrid learning model would encourage universities to focus on specialized education programmes, to better equip students with the skills required to succeed in their chosen careers
