In the past days, NYSC Members have been protesting the delay in the payment of the approved N77, 000 monthly stipends. When the programme was established in 1976, the dream of every graduates was to participate in it, because it exposed them to the diversity of the country
But in recent time, the programme is battling to cope with the rising population of participants due to the rising number of tertiary institutions, With inadequate funding of the programme, participants have been narating harrowing experience in the orientation camps
They are also protesting being posted to violence prone areas, Several youth corps members had been kidnapped or died in auto crashes while mobilizing to their places of primary assignments
With no insurance to cover participants in the programme, parents often bear the pain of paying ransom or the death of their children while serving the country.
