Presidency asks Ogun to domesticate National Mental ACT to cope with growing Mental Illness

Federal Government has asked Ogun State to domesticate the National Mental Health Act, to cope with the rising cases of mental illnesses. Health minister of state, Doctor Ishaq Salako asked the state health commissioner, Doctor Tomi Coker to Fastrack the domestication of the act in the state. The minister  made the call during a town hall meeting at the Aro Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Aro Abeokuta,

Doctor Coker promised that the state government would domesticate the act, which according to her was critical in  addressing the growing number of mental health disorder in the Country. She recalled that Ogun and federal governments had been collaborating, particularly in the health sector, citing the establishment of tertiary referral centre at the psychiatric hospital, Aro and Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta The commissioner said the state would further collaborate with federal ministry of health to facilitate access to quality mental health services, particularly in the rural areas of the state
