Abia, Government set to arrest School age Children who roam the Street during School hour

Abia State Government is to begin arrest of Children of school age who are not in classrooms during school hours parents of such children are to be penalized. The State Basic and Secondary Education Commissioner, Goodluck Ubachi, announced the measures at a News Conference held, ahead of The Launch of Abia School Transformation Programme. In January 2025, the State Government began free and compulsory education for children up to the Junior Secondary School level.
To enforce It, The Government set up Education Marshals” To Identify and Address Truancy among School-Aged Children. The Commissioner said The Education Marshals have been mandated to search for Children not in School, as from March 1, 2025 Ubochi said that A Planned Transformation of Abia Schools through Innovation would begin with 221 out of the State’s 1,600 Schools.
