Federal Government has said the ongoing lecturers strike is affecting the implementation of the Federal Government’s Bursary for Students pursuing education programmes in universities.
Students studying education programmes are to get N75,000 bursary per session, while their counterparts in the colleges of education will receive N50,000.
Permanent secretary in the Education Ministry, Andrew Adejo speaking at the news briefing on the 2022 World’s Teachers Day on Monday in Abuja, says the implementation of the national teaching policy has commenced.
According to the official, the payment of the stipends to beneficiaries could not be paid due to the prolonged strike by lecturers.
He explained that the strike has prevented the ministry from collating data of education programme students in tertiary institutions.
President Buhari announced the payment of the stipend last year as part of measures to encourage more students to produce qualitative teachers.
