2023 Census Take Off Date May Be Shifted, Due To March 18 Polls

The National Population Commission (NPC) has said that the 2023 national population and property census may be shifted.

The commencement of the exercise, is scheduled to have started on March 29, 2023.

But the chairman of the commission, Nasir Kwara, said the sudden shift in the governorship and National Assembly polls to March 18, 2023, may affect the take off date of the enumeration exercise.

Kwara spoke on the issue in Abuja on Friday, at a meeting with the resident representatives of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Ula Muer.

Although no specific date is fixed for the commencement of the exercise, Mr Kwarra told reporters that he will consult with President Muhammadu Buhari for a suitable date for the national census.

The UNFPA representatives promised the support of the agency to the commission on the exercise.

She donated 16 high capacity computers on behalf of the UNFPA to the commission for the post enumeration survey.

The state elections which were earlier scheduled to hold on March 11, have now been scheduled for March 18 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
