2023 Census Exercise Shifted To May 2023

The take off of the 2023 National Population and Housing Census has been shifted.

The exercise to be conducted by the National Population Commission will now hold in May, 2023. It was initially scheduled to begin March 29, 2023.

Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed announced the shift in the take off of the exercise at the Presidential Villa, at the end of the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

The minister, addressing the state house correspondents, said the exercise was shifted due to the last minute postponement of the March 11 poll to March 18, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The meeting, according to Mohammed, approved the sum of N2.8 billion for the NPC for the procurement of some software for the exercise.

The headcount exercise is to cost N869 billion for both the exercise and post-enumeration exercise.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, on Wednesday, inaugurated two committees to collaborate with the National Population Commission on the forthcoming national population census exercise.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held in the Government House, Yenagoa, Diri described population census as a critical ingredient for development hence the need for the government to plan towards a hitch-free exercise in the state.
