Ogun Stakeholders Okay 44 Bills in the Amended 1999 Constitution

Major stakeholders in Ogun state have approved all the forty-four alteration bills in the amended 1999 constitution sent to the state houses of assembly by the national assembly for consideration and ratification.

The stakeholders okayed the bills on Wednesday during a public hearing on the fifth alteration of the 1999 constitution organized by the Ogun state house of assembly at the assembly complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

They called for the speedy passage of the bills and that it be assented to by President Buhari so that all efforts and financial implications of the constitutional amendment exercise will not be a waste.

The stakeholders agreed that the implementation of the bills would enhance national development, promote a more independent legislature, judiciary and local government system that would deepen democratic practice.

They also noted that part of the alteration bills were meant to make the third tier of government efficient, and promote accountability, transparency, and the principles of power separation.

Contributors at the forum, included national president of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Comrade Akeem Ambali, permanent secretary, state ministry of education, science and technology, mrs. Abosede ogunleye, and the state chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole.

Others are the state director, National Orientation Agency, Kolawole Obadina, state chairman, nigeria union of teachers, Akinola Abiodun, representative of Ogun west stakeholders, Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose, as well as, deputy corps commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Ajayi Amos, among others.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the speaker, Olakunle Oluomo said he was optimistic that if the alterations of the constitution were carried out successfully, more institutions of government would be further strengthened, especially the three arms of government.
