JAMB: Over 3,000 Who Scored 300 and Above in UTME Did Not Gain Admission in 2018, 2019, and 2020

Three thousand, 135 candidates who wrote the unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME) and direct entry candidates who scored 300 and above in 2018, 2019 and 2020, failed to get admission into tertiary institutions.

The Joint Admission Matriculation Examination (JAMB) revealed in data sourced from its website.

Jamb registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, blamed the trend largely on wrong ‘O’ level subjects combination by the affected candidates who scored 300 and above but got low post-UTME scores.

Oloyede also says that some of them refused programmes offered them, the duplication of applications, and absence from the post-UTME screening.

The breakdown shows that only 3,683 out of 4,683 affected candidates in 2018, while only 2,288 out of 2,967 candidates got admitted.

Also in 2020, only 3,492 out of 4,948 candidates who scored 300 and above got admission into tertiary institutions.
