Abducted Prelate Regains Freedom With 100 Million Naira Ransom Payment

The abducted prelate of Methodist church Nigeria, His Eminence Samuel Kanu-Uche has said that  100 million naira ransom was paid to secure his freedom from kidnappers.

The cleric, at a news conference on Tuesday in Lagos, said the 100 million naira ransom was packed in five sacks of 20 million naira each, and handed over to his abductors.

He said the money was raised by members of the church, adding that neither the federal government or Abia state government played any role in his release.

While in the custody of his abductors, he said he was subject to severe beating with a threat that he would be killed, if the ransom was not paid to them.

The prelate who was abducted last Sunday while travelling along the Enugu-Port Harcourt highway, regained his freedom on Sunday.

He was taken away with his chaplain, and the bishop of Owerri, the Rt. Reverend Dennis Mark.
