A herd of elephants have started making incursion into some of the communities in the Ijebu east local government area of Ogun state.
The elephants seen at the Itasin community were said to be attacking people in the area.
Deputy Chief Whip of the state house of assembly, Sola Adams during the plenary of the state house of assembly, cried out that the elephants are destroying farmland in the axis.
According to him, a farmer injured by the elephants is still receiving medical attention at the Ijebu-ode general hospital.
Responding, the speaker of the house, Olakunle Oluomo cautioned people to stop further encroaching into the natural habitat of elephants in the local government area.
According to the speaker, the elephants left their habitat, attacking people and destroying farmlands in the axis.
He asks the state ministries of agriculture and forestry to engage the Nigerian Conservative Foundation for the preservation of the species and the entire ecosystem.
Earlier, the deputy speaker, Akeem Balogun and the Deputy Chief Whip, Olusola Adams in their report, called for security to be beefed up in the state’s border communities with Ondo and Lagos states.
Both of them want the security to be tightened, especially around Iwopin and Ode-Omi in Ogun Waterside and Imobi in Ijebu east local government areas.
