15 Drown In Capsized Boat In Sokoto

Fifteen persons have drowned in a boat which capsized in Sokoto State.

The boat capsized on Tuesday evening, while conveying passengers through Shagari Local Government Area to attend the celebration of the birthday of Prophet Mohammed in neighboring villages.

Chairman of the Local Government, Aliyu Dantani, says the boat was boarded by 25 passengers from four villages in the area.

According to him, ten of the passengers had been rescued alive from the river, while 15 others drowned.

Last April, 29 teenagers including a prospective bride drowned in a boat accident in the nearby village of Gidan Magana.
